Verbic Orthodontics serves families in the northwestern Chicago suburbs at its offices in Palatine and Barrington, transforming smiles to change lives. Verbic Orthodontics offers a full range of orthodontic treatment options to adults and children, including Invisalign, braces, treatment for TMJ & TMD, and sleep apnea appliances.
Invisalign is a popular alternative to traditional braces. It uses removable, clear trays custom molded to your mouth to move teeth over time until a healthy smile is achieved. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign is practically invisible, and the fact that it’s removable makes brushing, flossing, and eating easy. Learn more on Invisalign.com.
Traditional braces with metal brackets and wires are still very popular with patients because they’re reliable and produce consistently beautiful results. Improvement in technology over the past few decades means that traditional braces have gotten more comfortable and can produce quicker results compared to the old days. Patients with traditional braces can expect to have them adjusted every 4 weeks and may expect anywhere from 8 months to 2 years of treatment time on average.
Like traditional braces, Damon braces are comprised of brackets on the teeth. What makes them different is that they use “self-ligating” brackets, which results in treatment that’s both faster and more comfortable than traditional braces. Patients with Damon braces can expect adjustments every 8-10 weeks, rather than every 4 weeks with traditional braces.
TMJ & TMD treatment
People with temporomandibular joint disorder (TMD) have issues with their jaw joint (the temporomandibular joint, or TMJ). They may experience a range of symptoms, such as “clicking” or “popping” when opening or closing the mouth, jaw pain, neck pain, clenching or grinding of teeth, “stuffiness” in the ears, and unexplained headaches. Often times, the underlying problem causing the TMD is a bite that needs correction, which is typically achieved through orthodontic treatment options above. Once the bite is fixed, the symptoms go away.
Sleep Apnea and Snoring
Sleep apnea is a medical condition that disturbs the quality of sleep (and sometime the spouse’s sleep because of snoring), which in turn affects overall health. Sleep apnea is associated with diabetes and cardiovascular problems, and studies show that people with obstructive sleep apnea have reduced life expectancy, too. In short, if you or a family member has sleep apnea, it’s something to address sooner rather than later. Dr. Verbic and his team work with patients suffering from sleep apnea to find the right appliances to improve breathing and restore restful sleep.
